Tom Mahoney is a Learning Specialist at a government secondary college in Melbourne, Victoria, education writer and PhD candidate at Deakin University, with a strong interest in the purpose of of education and the evidence shaping educational policy. He has taken the initiative to mobilise educators and researchers through an open letter calling for the public release of the KPMG review of AERO.
The open letter published on 29 September 2026, calls on the Australian Education Ministers to release the publicly funded review of the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO). It argues that transparency and public accountability are essential, regardless of inividual views about AERO.
